For well over a year I’ve been interested in a mod for PHPLD 3.0+ that will update the page rank values for all the links. I’ve looked into it in the past, and couldn’t find anything I didn’t have to pay for. My search ended today as I was reading a post on Alive Blog about sorting a directory by order of page rank, and it mentioned the phpLD PR Update Tool. I followed the link and came to the Jago Harry Blog (Another quality Wordpress theme by Brian Gardner by the way!)

Anyway, I downloaded this Mod, took ten minutes to go through the install and whoala! A new quick, easy, and best of all, FREE PR update mod for my directories!

Akismet Plugin Causing MySQL Issues

During the last several weeks, I’ve been experiencing problems with Bradsblog. Sometimes, the site simply won’t resolve and the sands in the hourglass flow forever. Other times, I can get on but cannot access the back end to perform administrative functions. After a few back and forths with Dreamhost support, and realized that the problem lies in the Akismet anti comment spam plugin. In order to resolve these issues, I had to edit the Akismet.php file by removing the following code from it.

$n = mt_rand(1, 5);

if ( $n % 5 )

$wpdb->query(”OPTIMIZE TABLE $wpdb->comments”);

Dreamhost will continue to monitor this and see if this fixes the problem.

Affiliate Marketing and Search Arbitrage

For those that know me well, I made a small fortune last year with Search Arbitrage. Perhaps I’ll go into details in another post, but for now I’ll share this video with you.

Pepperjam CEO Kris Jones discusses how Google Adwords and others are adjusting to the market. I have noticed these changes, and as a result I have suffered tremendous financial hardship because of it.

I’ve been tagged

It seems as though more people are tagging each other, and their blogs. Calling on the blogger to spill some info about themselves that they might not otherwise publish in their blogs. Here I will spill some things about me, that the vast majority of those who read would never know.

First, I’d like to thank David Adams for tagging me and challenging me to come up with five things about me.

1. The Beginning
My first website I even ran was my old Blogspot blog. This was a few years ago now. I would post articles I wrote about politics, reviews and general rants. David helped give me the push I needed to add a brick in the foundation of my web empire that is steadily growing.

2. Military
I am a proud veteran of the US Navy of ten years. I enlisted directly after graduation of high school. To this day, I think that my enlistment in the Navy was the best decision I have made.

3.Employment
I currently work in manufacturing, and work in the electrical maintenance field. I am currently in a hands on/supervisory position and am not entirely happy where I work. I am currently seeking employment elsewhere.

4. The Family
I am married, happily I might add, and have been for going on six years. I have three wonderful children. My children have recently discovered the internet and I find them obsessing with it just as I do.

5. The Future
What the future holds for me, I am not sure. A part of me would love nothing more than to manage my websites all day, and be paid handsomely for it. The realist in me understands that this may not happen for quite some time. Slow and steady wins the race. I have seen my profits slowly creep upward, and on time will tell if I can maintain that.

More Family, Less Internet

AS I watch my web empire grow to over 35 sites, I look over and see my children growing up without me. Sure, I’ve been there for them and work hard to give my family everything they need. However, right now I think that I might be putting a bit too much time into my web activities. Especially since many of my sites are not paying off.

I need to scale down.

I don’t plan to sell off any of my sites, but instead I might try to focus more time on a few of them, and put off some of my other pet projects. Maybe fewer is better anyway. Maybe if I try to spend my time promoting just a few, they will pay off more than a lot of smaller sites.

Maybe what I need is a clear strategy, and keep with it. In the past, I have been the text book case of knee jerk webmastering. I might get an idea, then without giving it too much thought, buying a domain and putting together a quick site.

So, I will not knee jerk this idea. I will think it over for a few days. Some of the things I’m pondering are:

* No more custom templates, just for the sake of building them.

* Eliminate posting to other blogs I own for now, until I have more time to give them good thought.

* Continue to promote my popular forum, and spend time working on another newer one.

* Finish current websites I have obligated myself to building, then scaling back on new ones.

* Complete this year’s income tax return, as the mere thought of it is adding stress to my life.

Hopefully, this will clear my conscience, and give me more time with the family.
