Currently, I employ Maxbounty, Azoogle and CJ as my affiliates but decided that I should try to expand a little bit and see what else is out there. Instead of going by what everyone else says is good, I’ll take a look see for myself.

Last night I applied to Primary Ads, and after I applied I was sent an email from them that I’ll be approved within 24 hours, and that I should try out their sister affiliate, Kolimbo. I did. I applied to Kolimbo, and after I was automatically approved, (felt a little wierd) I started browsing through the merchants.

One of the first things I noticed with Kolimbo, what that every merchant that I browsed had a low payout limit of about $25. Does this mean that I have to generate $25 from that merchant in order to get paid anything? I think it does. Screw that. Oh-by the way – After I came back later I got an email from them, stating:

Welcome to the Kolimbo ‘I Need Help!’ email series. This is a series of 30
short emails which you’ll receive everyday. Each one contains a small
nugget of information to help you succeed in becoming an effective
affiliate and earn revenue from your web properties.

I’m not much for spam either, so I probably won’t mess with this one.

Lately, I’ve been noticing more and more blog owners selling blog posts. These range from $5 to $25, and the shocking part of it is you write the post yourself.

Please don’t get me wrong, I have written reviews for websites and software for hire, but I always write them myself. It just doesn’t seem right to do otherwise.

For a webmaster, two things rule – Money and content. In this case, the blog owner is getting both with no work on his/her own.

It seems as though everyone who is somebody with affiliate marketing will be there. Unfortunately, I will not be on the guest list this time around.

Not only is this short notice for me, but I find it hard to justify a trip to Las Vegas, plus the cost of getting in since I haven’t really even earned enough to get a paycheck from an affiliate.

I currently use Maxbounty and Azoogle as tools to help the money making machine chug along, and I have recently wondered how long I should let a non-producing CPA campaign go before pulling the plug on it.

For example, I am currently running a campaign from Azoogle that has a payout of $20 on one of my directories and have yet to make a dime on it. I’ve been running this ad for two weeks.

I asked David from CPA Affiliates.com about it, here’s what he had to say:

Flukeit: How long do you give a non-paying CPA Campaign before pulling the plug?
David: Well are you referring to CPA campaign where you are doing PPC to it or on a website you are currently running?
Flukeit: A website I’m running.
David: I usually will give it two days if it is placed in a prime spot on the site.
Flukeit: Wow, not very long huh?
David: The only time I would have it run longer is if it was a VERY low traffic site with like under 200 uniques a day then might let it run longer
David: I try to focus on targeting my audience. If audience is mainly techie teens I will try free iPod, laptop etc. If they are women I may try free magazine offers or free makeup.
Flukeit: Would you recommend using a lower paying CPA campaign and focus on higher volume, or the occasional big payout?
David: I would try both and whichever one makes me more over a set period would get the spot.

My conversation with David is leading me to have less patience with my CPA campaign I choose to use.

Several days ago, I began seeing animated image ads showing up in my 728×90 leaderboard ad block. It’s not just one, there are several of them. These aren’t the video ads that Google mentioned months ago, because they do not have audio. I have never seen these type of ads on my sites before, and neither has my visitors. I know this because I have seen an upswing of clicks from this site.

I strongly believe that with a moving image in the ad, this will drastically reduce the effects of Banner Blindness. I have seen an increase in revenue of 40-60% in the last week since these ads began appearing.

I guess I haven’t made the big time yet, but Maxbounty did think of me this year. I didn’t get a cruise, clothing or a special non-cash bonus. I received a card.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really not complaining. I appreciate the card. It doesn’t look “cheap” and was actually signed by several people. I have to ask, why? Looking at my Max Bounty reports, I really haven’t made much of anything at all. Certainly not enough to warrant sending me free gifts. So why do they bother with the card?
